Master German Vocabulary: The Wordlist Flashcards Feature

Memorizing raw lists of vocabulary can be one of the most challenging parts of learning a new language. The secret to making new words stick? Context.

The best way to learn a new German word is to see it functioning inside a real sentence. That is exactly why we created the Germalingo Wordlist Flashcards Feature. We have carefully curated over 140 flashcards covering all the essential vocabulary you need to reach the B2 level—and most importantly, every single word comes with a practical example sentence.

A cozy study desk featuring a tablet displaying the Germalingo app's flashcard interface for the German word "der Apfel" (the apple). A hand is tapping the "Mastered" button on the screen. The desk also holds a real red apple, a stack of paper flashcards, a coffee cup, and a notepad. A window in the background shows a yellow tram passing through a European city. The Germalingo logo and "Wordlist Flashcards Feature" text are overlaid at the top.

Here is how you can use our smart flashcards to build a rock-solid German vocabulary.

Perfect Your Pronunciation

Reading a word is only half the battle; knowing how to say it is what makes you conversational.

  • Native Audio: You can play the audio for every single German word and its accompanying example sentence to hear exactly how it is pronounced.

  • Listen Your Way: Choose to play the audio for an entire list continuously, or focus on individual words as you study.

Master Tricky German Noun Genders

Smart Controls: Study at Your Own Pace

Our flashcards put you in the driver's seat. When reviewing your wordlists, you can use our intuitive sorting options to focus exactly on what you need to learn:

  • Next: Not ready to tackle a specific word right now? Click Next to skip it, and it will automatically reappear later in your session.

  • Reveal: Click Reveal to flip the card and see the English meaning alongside a helpful example sentence in German.

  • Hard: If you struggled to remember a word after revealing it, click Hard. The system will make sure this word becomes visible again very shortly so you can reinforce the meaning.

  • Mastered: Once you know a word perfectly, click Mastered. This removes it from your current active deck so you can focus on new material.

Want to refresh your memory later? No worries! You can easily access the menu of any individual flashcard set to practice your "Mastered" words again whenever you like.

Seamless Progress Tracking

Life gets busy, and sometimes you have to cut a study session short. If you leave a flashcard deck before finishing the full list, Germalingo automatically saves your spot. Whenever you return, you will pick up right at the exact stage where you left off.
